Via marmaruolo || Alex Macchiarelli

Via Marmaruolo, presented by Alex Macchiarelli on the 24th of February 2024 and follows a personal and introspective voyage. Through his lens the aim is to share the raw emotions, cherished memories and profound connections that family evokes.

Alex Macchiarelli found himself amidst a personal reawakening regarding his identity when he went to family wedding in Italy. Visiting the the Italian side of his family he’d grown away from for the last 10 years.

Via Marmaruolo plays out as a diary and love letter to the part of Alex that struggles to find its place in Northampton, England where he grew up.

The photographs in this exhibition serve as portals to the past, documenting the poignant reunion and emotional growth during this rediscovery of his family ties. Alex’s snapshot approach mimics the feeling of family photographs feeling everyone with warm feelings of nostalgia for their own family and maybe a strong urge to reconnect with those that they’ve lost touch with.
